Subject Time to pass legislation to “Lower Drug Costs Now”

Right now, many older Americans are struggling to afford the prescription drugs they need to stay healthy. That’s because many pharmaceutical corporations are exploiting their power to charge consumers whatever they want for prescription drugs. The fact is, over half of Medicare’s beneficiaries get by on incomes below $29,650 per year. And 23% of the average Social Security check is used for out-of-pocket health care costs.

It’s time for Congress to take action to lower prescription drug costs, protect seniors and strengthen Medicare’s financing. That’s why I urge you to support the “Lower Drug Costs Now Act” which would enable Medicare to negotiate directly with drug companies to lower prescription drug costs for seniors, currently (and inexplicably) forbidden under law.

Nobody should have to choose between paying their bills for the basic costs of living and taking their medication. That’s why I urge you to make the issue of lowering drug costs a top priority. Thank you for your time and consideration.
