I’m deeply concerned that Social Security and Medicare are being targeted for deep cuts and radical reforms in order to reduce deficits and pay for a disproportionate expansion of tax breaks for the very wealthy.

Social Security and Medicare represent a covenant between the government and its citizens, and these programs are based on a promise that if you contribute then you earn the right to benefits. They belong to the more than 49.2 million seniors who have paid (and over 175 million workers who are currently paying) their hard-earned money into Social Security and Medicare — not to the politicians in Washington who want to use them as a piggy bank to pay for other fiscal priorities.

Therefore, I urge you to work closely with the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare to protect the benefits we have worked for, paid for and earned. Among your top priorities as my elected representative should be to defeat any legislative effort that threatens my retirement and health security.
